Provided are a brake control device and control method with which it is possible to improve responsiveness of vehicle braking at low temperatures. A brake control device, which brakes a vehicle through the use of a hydraulic pressure control mechanism for applying hydraulic pressure from a master cylinder to a wheel cylinder, is provided with a master cylinder hydraulic pressure detection means for detecting or calculating a physical quantity pertaining to the hydraulic pressure generated in the master cylinder, a wheel cylinder hydraulic pressure detection means for detecting or calculating a physical quantity pertaining to the hydraulic pressure generated in the wheel cylinder, and a control means for controlling whether or not to output a braking directive signal to another braking means in the vehicle, in accordance with the difference between the detected or calculated physical quantity of the master cylinder hydraulic pressure and the detected or calculated physical quantity of the wheel cylinder hydraulic pressure. |
