PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solar battery that can efficiently take out electrons or holes from a quantum dot even in the case of multiple interface states.SOLUTION: A quantum dot layer has a band structure and generates electron-hole pairs. At an interface at which an n-type semiconductor layer and the quantum dot layer are in contact with each other, the bottom of the conduction band of the n-type semiconductor layer has higher energy to electrons by an energy width ΔEc of 0 to 0.6 eV with respect to the bottom of the conduction band of the quantum level in the quantum dot layer. Together with this or in place of this, at an interface at which the p-type semiconductor layer and the quantum dot layer are in contact with each other, the top of the valence band of the p-type semiconductor layer has lower energy to electrons by an energy width ΔEv of 0.1 to 0.7 eV with respect to the top of the valence band of the quantum level in the quantum dot layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
