PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably manufacture glass, using a fusion vessel for a long period, when manufacturing the glass using the fusion vessel equipped with electrodes.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the glass includes a process of introducing a glass raw material into the fusion vessel equipped with at least one pair of electrodes, to fuse the glass raw material, and a process of electrification-heating fused glass produced by fusing the glass raw material, using the paired electrodes. The fusion vessel is constituted by layering a plurality of refractory bricks. The first electrode that is at least one of the paired electrodes is mounted onto the supporting refractory bricks to be supported, and is connected to the second electrode mounted and supported onto the supporting refractory bricks, with end faces thereof. A load is applied from a rear end face of the second electrode positioned in a side opposite to the end face of the second electrode connected to the first electrode, toward the first electrode, in the process for the electrification-heating, to be electrified from the rear end face of the second electrode under the condition where a clearance between the end faces is reduced between the first electrode and the second electrode. |
