551,701. Fibrous compositions. BENNIE, J. Sept. 2, 1941, Nos. 11233, 11840 and 14497. [Class 70] [Also in Group X] Building slabs are formed from a mixture of sawdust or similar organic fibrous material, a hydraulic cement such as Portland cement, an alkali silicate binder and sodium silicofluoride. Instead of sawdust there may be employed peat moss, cork, wood wool or fibres of bagasse or bamboo and it may be replaced in part by slag wool or other inorganic fibrous material and fillers, pigments and dyes may be added. Metal, wood or other reinforcement may be introduced into the plastic mass, e.g. wirenetting, expanded metal, woven textiles, scrim, hessian, unwoven fibrous material, and rods of wood or metal. The material may be made waterproof by adding bitumen, pitch or synthetic resin and fireproof by adding an aqueous solution of magnesium chloride, calcium chloride or alum which reacts with the soluble silicate to form an insoluble silicate distributed throughout the mass. Specifications 6256/13, [Class 70], 410,085 and 485,943 are referred to.
|
