A control device for a vehicle with an automatic transmission according to the present invention includes: a driving information detecting unit detecting a driving speed, an opening degree of a brake pedal sensor, an opening degree of an accelerator pedal, revolutions per minute of a turbine and outputting signals about those; a transmission control unit receiving the signals from the driving information detecting unit and outputting control signals by compensating a release compulsive study value and a coupling compulsive study value to study values of a release duty of a release element and a coupling duty of a coupling element respectively if the maximum undershooting amount (N_max) of the revolutions per minute of the turbine when shifting before a stop is a preset value or higher; and an actuator controlling an oil pressure supplied to the coupling element according to the control signals. According to the control device and a controlling method for a vehicle with the automatic transmission according to an embodiment of the present invention, the compulsive study values are compensated to the release duty and coupling duty when the maximum undershoot of the revolutions per minute of the turbine when shifting before a stop is the preset value or higher, thus the undershooting of the revolutions per minute of the turbine when shifting before the next stop can be prevented.
