The assembly (1) has a plate-shaped housing (3) fastenable at a coach body (2) of a rail vehicle and provided with a housing opening (3.1) i.e. gap. A step (4) is movably mounted in the housing in a starting position and movable via the opening between the starting and end positions. A drive device is provided with a movable connection unit (5.2), which transfers a movement produced by a motor (5.1) to the step. The drive device is arranged in a separate another plate-shaped housing (6), where an interior of the former housing is spatially separated from an interior of the latter housing. An independent claim is also included for a rail vehicle.
