[Class 23] Gas or liquid to be cleaned is introduced tangentially to a chamber from which it is evacuated through an axial opening 29. The separated solids are discharged through a slot 21 in the chamber wall. The opening 29 is bounded by a conical wall 31 which may have a second conical surface 36 and exit is facilitated by a conical surface 33 in the end wall 14. A fan 20 maintains the flow through the separator and, in the absence of the surface 36, inclined edges of the fan blades may run within the conical space bounded by the wall 31.
