The present specification discloses a mobile terminal for controlling a handwriting-relevant function through the gesture of a hand having a wrist-wearable device put thereon and a method for controlling the same. According to the present specification, the mobile terminal includes: a wireless communication unit for receiving a signal transmitted from a wrist-wearable device having a wrist sensing part, which is worn on a wrist of a first hand of both hands of a user to sense a gesture of the first hand (first hand gesture), and a wireless transmission part which transmits the first hand gesture sensed by the wrist sensing part as the signal; a display unit for displaying a screen; a sensing unit for receiving a touch input performed on the display unit; and a control unit for executing an application displaying a letter or a picture inputted through the touch input onto the display unit, and executing a function corresponding to the first hand gesture among functions of the application. According to the present specification, the user can simultaneously carry out the manipulation of a function and handwriting without stopping the handwriting to manipulate a function during the use of a handwriting-relevant application.
