A method and control system 150 of conducting an audio-visual (AV) conference call between at least two participants, the method involving establishing a call between a first AV conferencing device 152 at a first endpoint (100, fig 1b) and a second endpoint (102, fig 1b); providing an AV pairing code to the first device via the conference call for output to a first endpoint user; receiving at the first endpoint an audio call and an audio pairing code from a second device; linking the audio and AV calls using the pairing codes; and replacing an audio stream in the AV call with an audio stream derived from the second device. The applicant claims that the invention is intended for a participant to switch from a combined audio-visual call to use a more reliable telephone network for the audio part of the call when the quality of the combined AV call is degraded. Other aspects of invention relate a first participant to establishing or joining a call, the participant having first conferencing equipment for capturing and displaying video of an AV call, and second conferencing equipment for receiving and sending audio of an AV call; wherein password matching initiates the call. |
