A system and method for monitoring an industrial vehicle 105 includes a first imaging subsystem which acquires a plurality of load-carrying-portion images. A cargo-detection subsystem analyses each of the load-carrying-portion images to determine whether cargo 120 is positioned on the load-carrying portion 110. A power-detection subsystem determines when the industrial vehicle is running. A motion-detection subsystem determines when the industrial vehicle is in motion. An analytics subsystem calculates the amount of time that the industrial vehicle is running, the amount of time that the industrial vehicle is running while cargo is positioned on the load-carrying portion, the amount of time the industrial vehicle is in motion, and the amount of time the industrial vehicle is in motion while cargo is positioned on the load-carrying portion. A second imaging subsystem may be provided to acquire a plurality of images of a driver compartment 125 and a driver detection subsystem analyses the images of the driver compartment to determine whether a driver is present in the compartment. Both the cargo and driver determination analysis can be based on configuration images with no cargo or driver present, respectively. The invention provides a low-cost and easily installed system for obtaining useful vehicle usage parameters. |
