Oil is inhibited from entering a turbocharger compressor by maintaining a pressure differential between the wheel chamber 34 and the oil circuit. At high speeds, the pressure at the back side 22 of the compressor wheel 14 is sufficient. A collar 46 disposed near a tip of the compressor wheel at an entrance to the diffuser, is moved outwards into the diffuser, to increase the pressure, at a low end of the range of speeds. The collar 46 may be biased outwards by a spring 50, and urged inwards, to fully open the diffuser 38, by diffuser pressure at higher speeds. |
