[Class 140] [Also in Group XXVIII] A machine for making paper tubes by winding an adhesive-coated strip around a mandrel includes a coating device comprising an electrically heated and thermostatically controlled bath 12, an electrically-heated drum 21 mounted in the bath, a scraper roll 31, spreader roll 38 and a coating roll 37 which transfers the adhesive to the paper strip passing over the adjacent roll 42. The bath has a cylindrical shell containing heat insulating material and electrically heating elements longitudinally arranged in an arcuate row. The nip rolls 42 are heated to pre-heat the paper strip. The scrapper roll is adjustably pivotally mounted at 33 to control the thickness of adhesive on the drum 21. |
