The present invention relates to a touch detecting apparatus for changing a touch detection speed and a touch detection method thereof, capable of efficiently adjusting the frequency of detecting a touch by estimating an area having the high probability of generating the touch. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method of changing the touch detection speed of the touch detecting apparatus includes the steps of: detecting the touch as a touch generation unit makes contact with or approaches a touch screen panel; setting an area including a touch detection point and a remaining region to a first state area and a second state area on the touch screen panel; increasing a frequency count obtained when a touch detection operation is performed only for the first state area to integer times of a frequency count obtained when the touch detection operation is performed for both of the first state area and the second state area, to perform the touch detection operations for the first and second state areas; and setting the entire portion of the touch screen panel into a third state if the touch is not detected on the entire portion of the touch screen panel during a preset period of time to perform the touch detection operation at a frequency lower than that when the touch detection operations are performed for the first and second state areas. |
