[Class 99 (i)] A hose coupling comprises a nipple 1 with a bulbous enlargement 10 and flared end 4, a nut 2 having tapering internal threads 21 adapted to engage the' hose H, and another nut 3 adapted to engage the flared nipple-end and a member to which the hose is to be coupled. The nut 3 has a shaped surface 30 against which the tail portion 24 of the nut 2 is forced so as to be deformed to the shape shown in Fig. 4, i.e., until it is a sliding fit with the cylindrical part of the nipple. The coupling is assembled by screwing the nut 2 on the hose, the latter being deformed to fill the space between the nipple and the nut. A modification for joining two hoses has the nipple formed with a bulbous enlargement at each end and the nut 3 also formed with tapering threads. A. further modification has the two nuts integrally formed, the thin walled centre piece being then crimped inwards and severed so as to give two nuts similar to nut 2. |
