The invention relates to a capacitative sensor unit for inspecting the quality of fiber material (1). Said sensor unit contains a transmitter electrode (3), a measuring electrode (2), interspaced from the top of the transmitter electrode and opposite thereto, and a shielding electrode (4) surrounding the measuring electrode (2). The transmitter electrode (3) has an arched top which is curved in the direction of transport (X) of the fiber material (1) and which has a trough-shaped sliding surface. An AC generator (5) is connected between the transmitter electrode (3) and the shielding electrode (4) and the measuring electrode (2) is connected to an evaluation electronic system (8).
