A surgical sagittal saw (50, 202), for example an acetabular cup remover, with a complementary blade (130, 130a, 230). The blade is formed with a void (144, 186, 244) to receive a pin (94, 160) associated with the saw that releasably holds the blade to the saw. The blade and the pin have complementary tapered surfaces. When the tapered surface (164) of the pin moves against the tapered surface (141, 182, 240) of the blade, the blade is urged against a static surface of the saw. The void space has an opening, that forms the tapered surface and tapers inwardly from the first face of the blade body so as to have a maximum diameter adjacent the first face of the blade body; and a through bore to cooperate with the pin; the through bore has a shape that is not circular, f.ex an ellipse, and is further formed to define a major axis across through bore and at least one minor axis, the major axis being longer in length than the at least one minor axis and shorter in length than a maximum distance across the portion of the opening adjacent the first face. |
