In the present invention, there is disclosed a process for preparing nanocomposite material based on graphene oxide and polystyrene comprising reacting graphene with sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and potassium permanganate, mixing the reaction product with aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and washing thereof. So prepared suspension of graphene oxide in water or by a reduction intermediate step prepared suspension of reduced graphene oxide in water, is mixed with styrene and divinyl benzene and the reaction mixture is heated, wherein 4-styrenesulfonate and water-soluble reaction initiator are then added to the reaction mixture and under perpetual agitation the reaction mixture is let to react. There is also disclosed a nanocomposite material based on graphene oxide and polystyrene as well as the use thereof for the sorption of radionuclides.
