PURPOSE:To adjust print density without waiting for printing results by making print density variable in accordance with the size of characters contained in character information from an external device or the size of a solid area. CONSTITUTION:Print data containing character code or various segments of control information entered through an interface part 101 is written into a page buffer 103, then is converted to a character pattern and stored in frame memory 105. In this case, CPU 102 monitors information on the size of characters designated by control information and character expansion, and stores these data pieces in RAM 107. After that, CPU instructs print density to a recording part 109 based on the maximum character size of characters stored in RAM 107. A solid area detection part 30 is provided in frame memory 105 and print density in the recording part 109 can be decided based on the detection results. A printout can be obtained at an optimal density as the print density is adjusted in accordance with the character size or solid area size of print information. |
