An insecticidal detergent comprises a compound of the general formula R1 and R2 being similar or different aromatic radicals each containing one but only one aromatic ring which may be substituted with non-saltforming constituents, X1, X2 and X3 being chlorine, bromine or hydrogen and Y being halogen, distributed in soap of natural or synthetic origin or other washing or dispersing agent, which constitutes the major portion of the whole composition, the distribution being effected with the aid of superfatting agents and, if desired, difficulty or non-volatile solvent promotors. The insecticidal compounds specified are a : a -bis-(p-chlorophenyl)-a : a - bis - (p-methyl phenyl)- and a : a - bis-(m.p dimethyl-phenyl-b b b trichlorethane); a : a -bis-(p-chlorophenyl-)- a b b b -tetrachlorethane; a : a - bis-(p-chlorphenyl) - a b b -trichlorethane and a : a -bis (p-methylphenyl - a b b trichlorethane. Suitable washing or dispersing agents include soda, soap, (e.g. soaps from olive, arachis, rape and resin oils), soap produced from oxidised paraffin, resin soaps, suphonated and alkylated hydrocarbons, and fatty alcohol sulphonates. Specified superfatting agents are castor oil, bees-wax and palmitic acid cetyl ester. Specified solvents are cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, salts of cellulose glycollic acid ethers or softeners such as phthalic acid-di-n-butyl ester may also be added. Specifications 547,871, 566,386 and 569,429 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the employment of compounds of the general formula, in which X and Y have been eliminated with the formation of a double bond in the preparation of the insecticidal detergents; and the omission of the superfatting agent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
