The present invention pertains to the plant biotechnology field. The invention particularly refers to the techniques for genetically modifying plant cells. A method is included for obtaining fern plants genetically improved by recombinant DNA techniques, which comprises: the introduction of DNA sequences in fern spores by means of shock waves; the obtention of completely transformed gametophytes (haploid plants) and the generation of homozygote sporophytes (diploid plants), which will inherit the characteristics of interest to their descendants. The present invention provides a novel system for genetically improving fern plants, which may be used for adding, removing or overexpressing one or a plurality of desired characteristics, with the purpose of increasing their use as ornate plants, or environmental or industrial interest species. |
