PURPOSE:To enable mass production in a method for coating partially TiN on a decorative member made of a stainless steel or Co alloy by utilizing an IP coating of Au, Ag, Cu or their alloy as a mask material. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces 1-12 except the top surface 1 of, for example, a wristwatch case band made of stellite are finished and washed, thereafter an Au coating 13 is ion-plated on the surfaces 1-12, that is, over the entire surface. The top surface 1 is finished and polished by lapping to expose the base metal of the stellite member. TiN 14 is ion-plated on the surfaces 1-12 after washing. When the case band is dipped in the soln. of gold, the surfaces 2-12, that is, the TiN14 in the part where Au is coated is stripped away, that is, is lifted off, with Au. The wristwatch case band wherein the TiN film 15 remains without changing on the top surface along and the surfaces 2-12 retain the original gloss is obtd. |
