PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve gear of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of improving an engine startability due to reduction of friction and the like and improving exhaust emission performance due to production of strong exhaust gas flow and the like.SOLUTION: This invention comprises: a pair of exhaust valves 3a to 3b and a pair of intake valves 71a to 71b arranged for each of #1 cylinder and #2 cylinder; first valve stopping mechanisms 11b and 11c for changing over a valve operating state and a valve stopped state for one exhaust valve of the pair of intake valves of #1 cylinder and #2 cylinder; and a second stop mechanism 11a for changing over a valve operating state and a valve stopped state for the other exhaust valve in the #1 cylinder. The first valve stopping mechanism is constituted such that it becomes the valve operating state when hydraulic pressure is supplied and it becomes the valve stopped state when supplying of the hydraulic pressure is stopped, and the second valve stopping mechanism is constituted such that it becomes a valve stopped state when the hydraulic pressure is supplied and it becomes a valve operating state when supplying of the hydraulic pressure is stopped. |
