[Class 38 (v)] A liquid-break circuit-breaker mounted on a steel framework 1 comprises an enclosure 10, a high-voltage insulating bushing 25, passing through the top of the enclosure, and a lower terminal 7. The enclosure 10 comprises an insulating cylinder 18 surrounded by a porcelain weather-proof casing 11. Spring washers 15 bolted between the steel rings 17, 14 at the lower end of the insulating cylinders 11, 18, hold them respectively in tension and compression. The arc - extinguishing unit 26 mounted on the lower terminal may be that described in Specification 571,091. The moving contact 29, which telescopes into the bushing 25, is formed with a rack engaged by a sector. driven pinion supported in plates on the lower end of the bushing 25 and generally designated 28. An arm on the driving sector is pivoted to an insulating connecting rod 42 pivoted at its upper end to a crank 43 on the operating spindle 45, which may be common to several such breakers. A spring buffering arrangement 46 engages the opposite end of the crank 43. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the contact 29 may be connected directly to the connecting rod; or in Fig. 6 (not shown) the arcing unit 26 may be supported on the lower end of the bushing 25, and the moving contact carried in guides on the lower terminal; or in a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), an arcing unit co-operating with a hook-shaped contact as described in Specification 417,636 may be used. The Specification states the construction may also be applied to gas-blast or air-break circuit-breakers. |
