A Process for Converting Oxygenates to Olefins and Aromatics

A process for converting oxygenates to olefins comprising: a) feeding an oxygenate containing feed stream into an oxygenate conversion reactor (10); b) contacting the feed stream with an oxygenate conversion catalyst under oxygenate conversion conditions to form products comprising ethylene, propylene, mixed C4s and C5+ compounds; c) separating (20) the ethylene, propylene, mixed C4s and C5+ compounds respectively from the product stream to form an ethylene stream (70), a propylene stream (80), a C4 stream and a C5+ stream (90); d) passing the C5+ stream to an aromatics extraction unit (40) to remove aromatics from the C5+ stream to produce an aromatics stream and a raffinate stream and e) recycling the raffinate stream (140) to step (b).
