Disclosed are a security system operating method and an apparatus thereof. A camera in a security system according to the present invention includes: an image photographing part photographing an object image; a control part which identifies a subject from the object image, predicts a movement route of the subject, searches at least one surrounding camera corresponding to the movement route, selects at least one target camera among the searched surrounding cameras, and generates a photographing command including information as to the movement route and the subject; and a communication part transmitting the photographing command to the selected target camera. The present invention provides a method and an apparatus to monitor a situation in a specific region using multiple cameras.
