Provided is a method for producing a compound represented by general formula (I) by oxidative cleavage of a compound of formula (II), which is a bicyclic 4-substituted olefin compound, using hydrogen peroxide. The method for producing a compound represented by general formula (I) includes a step for causing a compound represented by general formula (II) to be subjected to oxidative cleavage using hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst or in the presence of a tungstic acid compound so that the compound represented by general formula (I) is obtained. (In the formulas, formula ‒A1‒ (where the front bond signifies a bond that bonds with carbon atom C1 and the back bond signifies a bond that bonds with carbon atom C2) is an optionally substituted ether bond, ester bond, secondary amino group, thioether group, or C2-6 alkylene group that may additionally contain these, formula ‒A2‒ (where the front bond signifies a bond that bonds with carbon atom C1 and the back bond signifies a bond that bonds with carbon atom C2) is an optionally substituted ether bond, ester bond, secondary amino group, thioether group, or C4-10 alkylene group that may also contain these.) |
