In a process for drying material by centrifuging, the material is subjected to the heating effect of a high frequency electric or magnetic field to facilitate the removal of liquid from the material. A cake of wet rayon is centrifuged in a metal drum, and during the early stages of the process an electrode is introduced into the drum. A high frequency electric current is established between the electrode and the drum to reduce the interfacial tension between the liquid and the rayon to facilitate removal of the liquid by centrifuging or by centrifuging combined with a flow of drying gas. The electrode may be a fixture in the drum, and the circumferential wall of the drum may be perforated and vaned.
