The present invention relates to a composition containing, as an active ingredient, an althaea rosea root extract or an atractylodes japonica extract for preventing, treating or alleviating pain, and more particularly to a composition containing, as an active ingredient, an althaea rosea root extract alone, or althaea rosea root extract and atractylodes japonica extract for preventing, treating or alleviating inflammatory pain and neuropathic pain. According to the present invention, the althaea rosea root extract or the atractylodes japonica extract can effectively prevent, treat or alleviate inflammatory pain and neuropathic pain. In particular, when the althaea rosea root extract or the atractylodes japonica extract are used together, a synergistic effect can be expected. Since these extracts are derived from natural materials, and the althaea rosea root and atractylodes japonica have been used for various use so that safety of the extracts is confirmed, the extracts are advantageous in that there is no side effect exhibited in typical pain relievers. It is expected that the composition containing the althaea rosea root extract and atractylodes japonica extract as an active ingredient can effectively replace typical pain relievers having a concern about side effects.
