Disclosed are a method of operating garbage collection and a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) storage system applying the same. The method comprises: a step of selecting a victim stripe for the garbage collection operation in the RAID storage system, based on an effective page ratio; a step of copying effective pages, included in the victim stripe, into a non-volatile cache memory; and a step of performing the garbage collection operation with respect to the victim stripe, by using the data copied into the non-volatile cache memory. According to the present invention, data reliability in a storage system may be improved by separately managing the data in the non-volatile cache memory. |
