An apparatus and method relating to down-hole production equipment for use in oil well environment is provided. The apparatus and method are for selectively isolating fluid flow through a production packer or other down-hole tubular device. The apparatus and method use a ball valve, which is moved from an open position to a closed position by lateral or axial movement of the tubing string as opposed to by rotating the tubing string.
