[Class 132 (ii)] In a tennis racket press comprising two frames 1 embracing the racket held together by a flexible strand or strands 6, 7 anchored to one frame and passing through holes 3 in the other, the press is clamped by moving a slide 8 along two oppositely disposed relatively inclined parts of the strands 6, 7 to tension them, the slide being selfretaining or otherwise held in place. As shown in Fig. 2, the slide 8 is formed with eyelets 10 and notches 11, 12 through which the strands 6, 7 pass forming bight which makes the slide self-retaining in position. As shown in Fig. 4 the strands 15, 16 are crossed, the slide 20 runs on guides 27, 28 and is held in place by tongues 21, 22 engaging racks 23, 24 in the frame. Two slides 20 may be used one on each side of the cross over of the strands 15, 16. In a modified form the slide carries a projecting cross bar which lies in grooves in the frame. In modifications, the slide may be clamped by forcing wedgeshaped parts into the holes in the slide through which the strands pass or the slide may be moved by levers pivoted on the frame or it may be moved by a screw attached to the frame. In this last modification, if two slides are used they may be moved by left- and right-handed threads on a common shaft.</p> |
