A system and method for indicating usage of a mobile terminal inside and outside a predefined location range employs one or more telecommunication network cells 20, each having a geographically distinct radio coverage area. The cells may transmit cyclically changing location area codes which prompt the mobile terminal to connect and present its IMSI. Alternatively the mobile terminal may be passively monitored. The network cells may be a group of dedicated femto cells, separate from the regular cellular network cells 30, which do not provide network access. The cells may be deployed in a secure location such as a prison. Terminals which are not used outside the prison are considered illegitimate terminals and are denied access to network services. |
