PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing metallization of plastisol coated plating tools during electroless metallization.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for applying a composition comprising a sulfur compound containing a sulfur atom in an oxidation state equal to -1 or -2 or a composition comprising a mixture of sulfur compounds having sulfur atoms in oxidation states of -1 and -2, to the plastisol coating of a plating tool. Also provided is a method for electroless-plating a metal on one or more polymers by fastening a substrate comprising the one or more polymers to a plating tool; etching the one or more polymers with a chromium (VI) free etch composition or a low chromic acid etch composition; and applying a catalyst to the one or more polymers.EFFECT: After metallization, the plastisol coated plating tool may be reused without the need to strip the unwanted metal from the tool.SELECTED DRAWING: None
