A display device and an information providing method thereof are provided. The display device comprises: a display unit configured to display content; a communication unit configured to communicate with a server; and a processor configured to control the communication unit to receive additional information for the displayed content and an information providing rule from the server and provide target information in correspondence with a context in the received additional information when the context in correspondence with the information providing rule is generated while the content is displayed through the display unit. Therefore, the display device is to immediately provide information in correspondence with display content.
