The present invention provides a method of preparing a diene-based polymer including polymerizing a diene monomer in a non-polar solvent in the presence of a polymerization catalyst, represented by chemical formula 1, including a neodymium compound, a halogen compound, and an alkylating agent, wherein the diene monomer is added thereto over two or more steps, and to a diene-based polymer prepared thereby and exhibiting excellent processability. In chemical formula 1, R1 to R3 are as defined in the specification of the present invention.
