<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool excellent in defect resistance and abrasion resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The surface of a body of the tool is coated with a hard coating layer via a physical evaporation method. The hard coating layer is composed of a composite carbonitride layer or a nitride layer which is represented by the composition formula (Al<SB POS="POST">1-x-y</SB>Cr<SB POS="POST">x</SB>Si<SB POS="POST">y</SB>)(N<SB POS="POST">1-z</SB>C<SB POS="POST">z</SB>) and has the average thickness of 0.5 to 8.0 μm. The hard coating layer includes a metal particle in which at least 90 at.% in a composing element is a metal element, and the cross section long diameter is 0.05 to 1.0 μm. The metal particle is dispersed and distributed in the hard coating layer at 3 to 20% of the longitudinal section area rate. In the metal particle, when the longitudinal section ratio of the particle is A%, the particle satisfying the conditions that the composing element includes Al of at least 50 at.%, and the aspect ratio of the longitudinal section is at least 2.0, the sharp angle which the cross long diameter makes with the surface of the substrate form is at most 45°, or the like, and when the longitudinal section ratio of the other particles is B%, 0.3≤A/(A+B). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
