Provided are a device and a method for amending handwritten characters. The device comprises: a user input unit receiving user input of the handwritten characters; a control unit recognizing the inputted handwritten characters, determining each reference point of the recognized handwritten characters, and arranging the recognized handwritten characters based on locations of the determined reference points; and a display unit displaying the arranged handwritten characters. The present invention provides a device and a method for amending handwritten characters capable of efficiently amending handwritten characters by using reference points of the handwritten characters of a user.
