IMPROVED TURBO DECODING USING A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE EXTRINSIC INFORMATION OVER SEVERAL ITERATIONS

The invention concerns the implementation of a novel turbo decoding scheme based on the soft combining principle. This method helps improve the ability of turbo codes to correct errors by applying the soft combining principle to the decoding results from each iteration in the turbo-decoder. The performance assessment is carried out for the turbo decoding algorithm based on the Max-Log-Maximum a Posteriori (Max-Log-MAP) principle, 16 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (16QAM) and the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) transmission channel. The results of the simulations show that the performances of the proposed solution are better than those of the standard solution. We name our solution "Soft Combined Turbo Codes".
