An enclosure 10 for a consumer unit, which is capable of being secured to a wall or other surface over the consumer unit to cover the same, comprises side walls 12 which, in use, project from the surface to which the consumer unit is secured to lie alongside side walls of the consumer unit. A lid 14 is hinged to the side walls of the enclosure to provide access to the enclosure and a lining of a fire-proofed material is applied to the inner surfaces of the side walls and the lid. An opening 30 is formed in one or more side walls of the enclosure through which electrical cabling leading to and from the consumer unit can pass and a sheet 32 of fire-proofed material is positioned over the or each such opening. Each sheet is shaped or is capable of being shaped to enable the cabling to pass to or from the enclosure interior. |
