Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for extracting face features, and a method and an apparatus for recognizing faces. According to an embodiment, a face feature extracting device extracts landmarks on a face from a current input image, samples a skin area and a face component area based on the landmarks of the face, and generates a probability model for the sampled skin area and face component area. The face feature extracting device extracts the face component area from a face area included in the input image by using the generated probability model, and extracts face feature information from the extracted face component area. According to the present invention, since the face component area except for the skin area can be accurately extracted from the face area, face recognition accuracy can be improved.
