Provided are a storage device for supporting debugging having improved accuracy, and a method for operating the storage device. The present invention relates to the method for operating the storage device which receives a command from an external device through a command pad, transmits a response to the external device through the command pad, and exchanges data with the external device through a plurality of data pads. The operating method of the present invention comprises the following steps: a storage device receives a debug command through a command pad; and the storage device outputs inner information as a response through the command pad in response to the debug command.
