PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle occupant protection structure which properly protects an occupant during a side collision.SOLUTION: The vehicle occupant protection structure includes: a side air bag 11 expanded between a side door 20 of a vehicle and an occupant 1; a plate-like door trim 30 attached to a vehicle cabin side of the side door 20 and forming an interior surface of a vehicle cabin; and a thin plate part 41 which is formed in the door trim 30 with a plate thickness being thinner than the other part and vertically extends at the rear side relative to a shoulder part 2a of the occupant 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
