PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an NOx responsive element suitable for directly detecting NOx.SOLUTION: A nitrogen oxide responsive element comprises: an oxygen ion conductive layer; a first electrode layer having a nitrogen oxide degradation catalyst phase in contact with the oxygen ion conductive layer, exposed to NOx and comprising a perovskite type oxide; and a second electrode layer facing the first electrode layer through the oxygen ion conductive layer. A nitrogen oxide exposed face of the nitrogen oxide degradation catalyst phase includes a nitrogen oxide adsorption stabilization face.SELECTED DRAWING: None
