Examples of the present disclosure relate to an apparatus and method for sensing light. The apparatus comprises a support structure configured to attach to an appendage of a user, wherein the support structure comprises: a light source;an optical sensing element; and a covering element arranged to cover at least the optical sensing element, wherein the covering element is configured such that the covering element's transmissivity is adjustable.
