The present invention relates to a lane recognition device and a method thereof. The main purpose of the present invention is to provide the lane recognition device and the method thereof capable of solving a problem in which a user misrecognizes a branched lane as a lane of a crossroad of user vehicle when there are multiple lanes in a branched position wherein a road is branched such as an IC exit. To this end, disclosed are the lane recognition device comprising: a GPS receiving unit to receive a GPS signal from a vehicle; a road information output unit to output branched position information at the present vehicle position detected from the GPS signal; a camera sensor to obtain vehicle front image information; and a lane recognition unit to recognize a lane based on the branched position information outputted from the road information output unit and the image information obtained by the camera sensor, and the lane recognition method using the same. The lane recognition unit recognizes an inner lane on the basis of the user vehicle among lanes branched inside the image obtained by the camera sensor as a lane of a driving crossroad according to a branched road section lane recognition logic if the present vehicle position from the branched position wherein the branched road is branched is within a set distance.
