PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a permanent current switch, connected with a superconducting coil, from burning at the time of turning the permanent current switch off.SOLUTION: A permanent current switch includes a high temperature superconductor (3) connected in parallel with a superconducting coil (4) formed by winding a superconductor, and constituting a permanent current loop with the superconducting coil in superconducting state when turned on, and turned off by normal conducting transition. A material in gas state, having a boiling point higher than the superconducting transition temperature of the high temperature superconductor is introduced into an atmosphere (5) where the high temperature superconductor is placed, and the temperature of the high temperature superconductor is raised by radiation including liquefaction latent heat from the material thus causing normal conducting transition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
