666,293. Canister caps. PATON, CALVERT & CO., Ltd. May 25, 1950. [May 27, 1949] No. 14213/49. Class 66. In a canister having a snap-on cap 6, a flexible sealing means such as a cup-shaped or conical washer 1] is provided between the canister and the cap so as to surround the outlet -opening 2 of the canister and is adapted to be flexed as the cap is applied to provide a seal not only when the cap is fully assembled but also when the cap has been applied but not pressed into its fully assembled position. As shown a canister 4 has a central opening 2 at its upper end 3 which is reduced in diameter and is slightly tapered as at 5 to receive a flange of a snap-on metal cap 6, the lower end 7 of which snaps on to an inward peripheral bead 8 at the lower end of the tapered part 5 and abuts against a peripheral platform 9 adjacent to the bead. The initially flat rubber washer 11 when stretched round the flange 10 assumes a conical form, the upper rim engaging the underside of the cap as it is applied to form a seal prior to the cap being pressed fully home. |
