<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-shielding sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element that has high light-shielding properties, hardly causes a cell gap defect even when manufacturing a liquid crystal display element by a liquid crystal dropping method, and can inhibit disconnection of a seal pattern even when drawing a fine seal pattern, and to provide a vertical conduction material and a liquid crystal display element that are manufactured using the light-shielding sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element. <P>SOLUTION: A light-shielding sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element contains a curable resin containing a curable compound having an unsaturated double bond, a radical polymerization initiator, and titanium black.
