摘要 Video encoding comprising partitioning each image of a video signal into an array of coding tree units (CTUs); partitioning the array of CTUs of each image into a pattern of rectangular portions for independent encoding such that the prediction dependencies of samples within a portion do not extend into any other portion and the entropy encoding parameters of one portion are independent of those of any other portion, the pattern being such that each row of CTUs is partitioned into at least two of the portions; encoding the CTUs within each portion using wavefront parallel processing (WPP); and outputting the encoded CTUs according to an order 0-83 with respect to the array of CTUs which is different to a raster scan order within successive respective portions. The crux of the invention lies in outputting the encoded units in a different order to the usual raster san order. Preferably, the portions are tiles. In the embodiments the output ordering is equivalent to a raster scan order for the entire picture, with each entire row being output successively. This reduces latency in encoding, transmitting and decoding video data using parallel processors. Preferably dummy portion or tile header data is used. Corresponding decoding claims are included.
