<p>A shaft (e.g. titanium) is positioned in a cavity with gear teeth shaping cavities at the periphery. A hollow forging billet (e.g. steel) at a plastic temp. is positioned round the shaft. Downward pressure applied to the billet compacts the billet axially, thus forcing the metal radially into the cavities to form gear teeth and joining the billet to the shaft with a metallurgical bond.</p> |
